The unfairness of life........

is that, in 1945, this was a maternity dress. Sure beats those tight belly tops of today, doesn't it?

  1. I would MUCH rather see women walking around in this than having little tank tops with their belly hanging out.
    *shudder*
I don't get it... They don't wear that when they're NOT preg!

  2. Cute!! I'm 26 weeks pregnant and I will say that it's very difficult to find decent maternity clothes these days. Like many pregnant gals, I wear a lot of my "regular" clothes throughout pregnancy to avoid the incredibly uncomfortable or unflattering "maternity" clothes. Modern maternity clothes are also outrageously expensive for something that you're only going to wear for a few months! So, it's no surprise that girls try to get away with squeezing into their pre-pregnancy clothes. My best advice to fellow pregnant ladies of the world is to buy extra long tank tops to wear under their normal shirts, that way the belly isn't hanging out the bottom. A round, pregnant belly is cute. A belly hanging out the bottom of a tank top looks like a beer gut! Not cute at all! Vintage maternity fashions were much more practical, allowing a lady to wear a dress from day one till the end of pregnancy and look fabulous the whole time. Today, There's an awkward window of being stuck between regular clothes and maternity clothes. If maternity designers took a hint from the adjustable nature of vintage fashions, we may see less "beer gut" bellies!

  3. In total agreement.....I made some of my maternity clothes from vintage patterns, and they just looked so classy, I loved wearing them.
